Governance & Official Documents

At GB Power Hockey Association, we have a board of five selected trustees. Our trustees are at the forefront of any decisions that are made by the Association. All decisions made by the trustees at GB Power Hockey Association are in the best interest of the welfare of Power Hockey participants and the development of the sport itself. Here is a short introduction from each trustee and how they play a role in the Association:

Gerry Kinsella MBE – Chairman

Gerry founded the Greenbank Project charity in 1983 and has spent a life time dedicated to improving opportunities for disabled people on Merseyside, particularly through education and sport. His legacy continues through Greenbank’s work and he remains passionate to the cause. Gerry retired as CEO in December 2017 and now dedicates his time to further developing Power Hockey at a National and International level and eventually becoming a Paralympic sport. Gerry was justly awarded an MBE in 1991 for his work with Greenbank and was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by LJMU his outstanding contribution to sport, as both an elite athlete who won Commonwealth, European and World Championship gold medals with the Great Britain wheelchair basketball team, and for inspiring the next generation to get into sport. An all-round athlete, he also represented Great Britain at the Paralympic Games, achieving bronze in swimming and athletics and also won numerous gold medals in pentathlon and table tennis at the Stoke Mandeville International Games over a 15 year period.

Marcus Harrison – Competition & Provisions Regulator

Marcus’ role as a trustee for the GB Power Hockey Association is ensuring that the CIO applies the right rules and provisions for participants as he has great experience in Power Sports. Marcus has been involved with Power Hockey since he was 6 years old. Over this time, he has been involved in helping design the chairs used for Power Hockey and advising on aspects that makes the chairs effective when playing the sport. In his spare time, Marcus occasionally helps coach Greenbank Power Hockey Club in their training sessions. Currently, Marcus also plays Power Football for West Bromwich Albion and England. In 2016, he was named player of the tournament in the Champions League and then went on to win the European Club championships in 2019. Marcus has graduated with a 2:1 in Science and Football at Liverpool John Moores University.

Ellie Curran – Treasurer & Secretary

With having a disability herself, Ellie takes great pride and admires the CIO’s mission as a trustee of GB Power Hockey Association. Ellie’s main role within the Association is identified as the “Treasurer” meaning she looks to work with various organisations to secure invaluable funding. Sourcing funding is a key element towards the work that we do as the Association wishes to supply and regulate Power Hockey to as many physically disabled people we can. As well as that, Ellie helps the Association’s Chairman with some projects and administrative tasks. In her spare time, Elie plays Power Football competitively for Greenbank PFC and sometimes plays Power Hockey recreationally. She looks forward to seeing the sport of Power Hockey progress and supporting the Association with this.

Liam Ashton – Media Secretary

Liam is very passionate about the sport of Power Hockey and as a trustee, he hopes to help ensure the growth of the sport. Liam has played Power Hockey since he was 8 years old and still loves the sport. Over this time, he has helped improve the sport with his thoughts on the chairs and making the rules of Power Hockey. Liam’s role as ‘Media Secretary’ means he managers all the social media accounts for the Association and promotes the sport.

Steve Sullivan – Support Officer

Steve sees his role as a trustee as a Support Officer for the development and promotion of Power Hockey for players, coaches and volunteers. Funding is vital to ensure that the sport can benefit all levels of participation which is crucial to the growth at grassroots level. This is a relatively new sport and needs encouragement from all parties to continue the hard work to provide opportunities whether playing, coaching or as a volunteer. On a personal level, Steve has been privileged to be involved with so many passionate people who want to develop disability sport for all participants. He has been doing this role for over 20 years and has seen so many positives being achieved through various projects.

Mark Palmer – Minute Secretary

Mark competed for Great Britain in Table Tennis for over 15 years and was a member of GB team at the Sydney Paralympic Games in 2000.He also qualified for the Athens Games 4 years later but retired from international competition shortly after qualification because of the arrival of his baby daughter. He participated in numerous international competitions, European and World Championships. Highlights include winning over 10 British National titles, World CP Champion and Silver Medallist in Class 4 Team at European Championships. He is now a Sports Development Manager at Greenbank Sports Academy in Liverpool and has also played an active role on the committee of the British Table Tennis Association for the Disabled. (2004 - 2013) as well as various other sports bodies. Mark is the minute secretary for GB Power Hockey Association and looks forward to seeing the sport and the association grow, and enabling more people to access the sport.
